More than just an "Eye Exam"

A Digital Comprehensive eye exam performed by an Optometrist is an important part of preventative health care. It can be likened to a physical for the eye because it looks at the entire eye and visual system, in addition to glasses prescriptions. This eye exam include Modern Retinal Imaging and Optical Coherence Tomography scans during your examination to provide extraordinary detail about your eye health. Digital Eye Exams are available at Prince Rupert Optometry and Envision Optometry (Abbotsford + Port Coquitlam).

Comprehensive eye exams can detect eye diseases and disorders such as:

• Dry Eye Syndrome
• Cataracts
• Glaucoma
• Blepharitis
• Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD)
• Retinal Holes, Tears, and Detachments
• Binocular Vision and Visual Learning Disorders
• Contact Lens Related Inflammatory and Infectious Processes

We provide medical eye examinations for the following conditions in conjunction with your family doctor and/or specialist:

• Diabetes
• High Blood Pressure
• Hyperthyroidism
• Auto-immune conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis (Plaquenil Therapy), Sjogren's Syndrome, Systemic Lupus Erythmatosus, bowel-related auto-immune conditions and more.
• Neuro-opthalmic conditions ex. Multiple Sclerosis, Myasthenia Gravis, Parkinson's Disease, Traumatic Brain Injury and many more.

The Digital Exam type is available at most of our locations.

We offer retinal imaging and Optical Coherence Tomography scans as part of our Digital Comprehensive Eye Examination. Both of these scans are performed in addition to our Comprehensive Eye Exam allowing for a detailed assessment of your eyes. 

Retinal Imaging gives your optometrist a digital image of the back of your eye which can allow your doctor to make an earlier diagnosis of many eye conditions while allowing to compare changes over time. It is quick, painless and can be performed on any age group. 

Optical Coherence Tomography is a non-invasive imaging test that uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina. This allows your doctor to see each distinctive retinal layer and can catch changes that are not-yet visible to the naked eye. It is safe for all age groups and is encouraged to all of our patients as part of our Digital Comprehensive Eye Exam.

With a proper fitting and new lens designs, we can provide solutions for:

• Discomfort
• Dryness
• Astigmatism
• "Over-40 Crowd" - new lens designs allow for clarity at all distances including far, computer distance and reading range. 
• Specialty Contact Lens fittings for anterior segment conditions such as keratoconus, irregular corneas, corneal transplants, severe dry eye and more. Examples include Scleral lenses, Hybrid lenses and Rigid-gas permeable lenses.

Pediatric examinations are important to sure your child does not suffer from a vision disorder. New research from the American Optometric Association shows that 1 in 5 children have a vision disorder and 1 in 4 Pre-school children require a visual correction.

The Canadian Association of Optometry published the following examination guidelines:

• 6-9 Months
• At least 1 Exam between 2-5 years old 
• Age 6-19: Recommended yearly examinations
